Spoof City

Drake Bell from Drake and Josh plays Rick Riker aka The Dragonfly in this new flick from the guys who brought us the horror movie spoof series Scary Movie. It might be pretty obvious, but the Scary Movie Team is making fun of all the superhero movies this time around, including Spider-man, X-men, Batman Begins, Fantastic Four, Superman, and tons more.

Dragonfly, Meet Spiderman

Superhero Movie follows a similar plotline as Spider-man, but Rick gets bitten by a radioactive dragonfly instead of a spider and finds out that he has super powers like sticking to walls. Rick has to keep his new identity a secret, while trying to win the heart of his love interest, Jill (Sara Paxton from Darcy's Wild Life) and deal with the death of his Uncle Albert, played by comic legend Leslie Nielsen.

Superhero Party!

While the Dragonfly gets used to being a superhero, bad guy Lou Landers, aka The Hourglass, is terrorizing the city and stealing people’s life force in an attempt to become immortal. Can the Dragonfly, with the help of a jumble of other superhero pals, including funny versions of The Human Torch, Wolverine, and the Invisible Girl (Pamela Anderson), save the day and keep the audience rolling in the aisles? You’ll have to watch it to find out.

The Bottom Line

This movie isn’t going to win an Oscar, but as far as the recent spoofs go, it’s not that bad. Considering how terrible Epic Movie was though, that’s not saying much. The cast is funny and it seems like filming was a blast, but a lot of the superhero jokes get old pretty quick, especially one really awkward scene which involves Rick’s Aunt and a long fart joke. The humor may be a little crude for younger viewers, but the gags come fast enough to make you laugh at least some of the time. If you like mindless comedies, this flick is probably just funny enough to help you waste a couple hours.
