This classic Sonic game lets you play as Sonic or Tails across 6 zones. Tails has the ability to hover using Up and 2 on the Wiimote, but he can't find the chaos emeralds. He also has the benefit of having an easier time, because he starts off with three continues and five lives.
Sonic has the speed dash instead of a hovering ability, and when he collects 100 rings in a single level, he warps to a Special Stage to attempt to catch one of the five Chaos Emeralds in this game. Collecting them all before you beat Robotnik at the end gives you a special ending! Here are tips for the Special Stages:
Special Stages
Special Stage 1 (blue): Jump on the monitor with the rocket boots, and just keep going right until you either hit the emerald or an invisible wall in the level, then turn around and get the emerald if you missed it.
Special Stage 2 (yellow): There are two separate sets of floating platforms, the left one with rings and difficult jumps, the right one with springs that you have to jump from, holding the 2 button, to reach the next level. Use the set of platforms on the right, and make sure you touch the clock monitor that appears on your left at one point to save time. Move up to the right a bit further on the springs, then make one final jump left to the emerald. You are on a time limit, so try not to miss those jumps.
Special Stage 3 (green): Jump on the invincibility monitors and enter the [kwlink]tubes[/kwlink], always just holding up on the d-pad so you can go through the right tube at the end.
Special Stage 4 (silver): Alright, this one gets complicated. The emerald is at the end of a very long series of obstacles, and you haven't got a lot of time. Try to keep running at top speed and jump over most of the springs. If you hit a dead end, spin dash through until you can't any longer. If you're still at a dead end after breaking some bricks that way, jump where you are to see if you can break some going down, then try spin dashing again down there. Whenever you get the rocket boots, move up and to the right as far as you can.
Special Stage 5 (pink): Go left and hit the clock monitor to freeze time. You're going to enter a maze of tubes, and it may unfortunately take a couple of tries to figure out which way you should go, as it gets rather complicated. Don't worry about directions to begin with, but when you enter the tube that starts in the up direction, hold left just after you see the first tube go off to the left, letting you enter the second one. Right then, you need to press down, because that tube comes up almost immediately. Now you can just chill until you are shot out of the tube into a short piece of land with a spring at the end. If you don't jump in time, your momentum will carry you into the spring, and you'll go back into the tubes, but you quickly circle around to get another try. If you timed the jump right, you will have the last emerald. Congratulations!
