The first Spectrobes Wii game makes a strong showing. Excavate and awaken your Spectrobes and defeat the Krawl to save the universe!

Spectrobes is an anime series that was meant to be a video game. In Spectrobes: Origins, you can play as Rallen and Jeena, two Nanairo Planetary Patrol Officers who fights the evil race, the Krawl. Rallen and Jeena excavate and awake creatures called Spectrobes to help them do battle.

Teamwork is the Name of the Game

Unlike the previous DS version of Spectrobes, Spectrobes: Origins focuses on cooperative play. One player controls the human character while the other controls the Spectrobe that is summoned. You can still play the game by yourself, but it is not as fun.

In single player mode, the nunchuk controls the human character while the Wiimote motion controls calls the Spectrobe in and out and handles the targeting. By yourself, the game becomes a frantic hack-and-slash affair, but with another player helping you out, the game becomes more fun as more strategy and tactics can be used. The only problem you may have in co-op is with the camera, as it focuses on the human character and can put the other player offscreen.

Digging Your Teammates Out of a Hole

To find new Spectrobes, you must excavate them. The mini-game for fossil excavation works a lot like surgery in Trauma Center. There are different tools that you must use in certain ways in order to dig out the Spectrobe without hurting it.

After you get a Spectrobe, you need to awaken it by using the Wiimote and Nunchuk in time with the beats on the screen. You can carry a maximum of five Spectrobes at a time and can use them one at a time during battles.

Good Always Wins

Spectrobes: Origins is an excellent RPG game, great for any two players, especially if they are fans of the TV show. The game is well made, has a great story and graphics, and the controls are excellent.
