Star Wars :: Trading Card Game Review

Dec 27, 2006

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones dropped on May 16, 2002 but the Star Wars Trading Card Game (TCG) was in a store near you almost a month earlier! The Star Wars TCG lets you collect Jedi, aliens, bounty hunters, starships and wicked Star Wars events from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and battle your friends with them.

The Star Wars TCG is super easy to learn. There's even a mat with directions to get you started. You build your troops, pick your battles, play cards, roll dice and count damage. Then it's on to the next turn - the Star Wars TCG is fast, easy and the cards look great!

Each player makes a lightside and a darkside Star Wars TCG deck and battles against other players with their cards. You roll dice to cause damage, spend Force points for special moves and build troops to battle in the Star Wars universe.

The coolest thing about the Star Wars TCG is that it made the Jedi easy to get. With some card games cool characters are really rare, which is a total pain. The common Jedi in the Star Wars TCG are weaker but you can still play with them.

The biggest problem is that the Star Wars TCG is too simple. With only 180 different collectible cards there aren't a lot of options. It's also really random - you roll dice for combat and building points. So even a Star Wars TCG player who's all that, can get stomped by a couple of bad rolls.

The Star Wars TCG will be a really cool game once it gets more cards and more battle options to really spice things up.

Thumbs Up:

  • Sweet Episode II images on the cards!
  • You'll always be able to use the Jedi characters.
  • Thumbs Down:

  • Really random - you need luck to win.
  • Way too basic, it needs more cool stuff.
  • Not enough cards in the first set.

  • Rating:
