Say Hello To The New Sonic

Feb 11, 2014

As a long time SEGA fan, it always disappointed me that Sonic The Hedgehog never quite reached his potential as far as mass-appeal goes. The hardcore fans gobbled Sonic up but Sega strived for Super Mario status with Sonic, which they almost reached in the early 90's but have since failed to.

Could a tide be shifting in Sonic's favor in the near future?

Sega seems to be banking on new success, with the announcement of Sonic Boom. A new collaborative multi-media effort by Sega, TOMY, Big Red Button and OuiDO! With this new effort also comes a completely redesigned Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles - who is the size of a line-backer now, as you can see above.

TOMY will be handling the action figure side of the deal. OuiDO! is taking on producing the animated TV show and Big Red Button is developing the game - source IGN. Sonic Boom the game, also happens to be the final game in the "3 Exclusive Games" deal between Sega and Nintendo. The first two games were, Sonic: The Lost World and Mario & Sonic At The Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. So yes, Sonic Boom games are exclusive to Nintendo's Wii U and 3DS.

I'm not sure how I personally feel about the new designs yet, but I'm open to change. It's about time Sonic got a great game. Hopefully Sonic Boom is a fresh start to a fantastic future for Sonic fans.
