Marvel and Square Enix Announce Multiple Avengers Games

Jan 27, 2017

By: Max Cannon

Japanese published Square Enix has teamed up with Marvel Entertainment to release a slew of games based on The AvengersWe got a trailer showing off the upcoming games, or maybe just one game, we don't really know yet! But Square Enix announced that they have multiple games coming out through their new partnership with Marvel Entertainment.

On January 26th, Marvel Entertainment's YouTube channel uploaded a video that teases a game set in The Avengers universe, or possibly a handful of games. The trailer shows off hints and tools belonging to several Marvel characters including Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. Some narration by an unknown character runs over the trailer and says that they just "need to reassemble." No date is given but maybe the first project in the Square Enix series of games will be paired with The Avengers: Infinity War (Part One) in the summer of 2018. Take a look below at the new trailer!

What's exciting about the games is the pair of developers that are attached. More developers may be involved, but at the moment we know that Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics are working on some of the upcoming titles in The Avengers Project. Crystal Dynamics is most known for the Tomb Raider games, which include the recent reboot and its follow up The Rise of the Tomb Raider. The other developer, Eidos Montreal, was also involved in the Tomb Raider reboot but is also responsible for the last couple of Deus Ex games including Deus: Ex Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - also that terrible Thief reboot but let's ignore that.

What Other Marvel Entertainment Games Are in the Works?

Marvel Entertainment has been looking to beef up their gaming resume as of late. After a collection of mediocre, and less than mediocre games, Marvel Entertainment has planned to start pumping out some quality games and pick some developers with a higher pedigree. Last year during Sony's 2016 E3 conference, Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 was announced with a still unknown release date and developed by Insomniac Games, the team that created Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, and Resistance, so we can expect a high caliber game.

The other Marvel game that is actually announced is Guardian's of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. Telltale Games recently proved their mettle with Batman - The Telltale Series, a game that didn't run well but had an interesting story and a new take on Batman, so this definitely falls in line with Marvel's new focus on quality gaming. There's no release date for this game either but Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 will hit theaters on May 5th, 2017.

So, none of these games have actual dates but with some great developers working on these games we can reasonably assume that the games will be just as great.
