Are Spider-Man and God of War Coming to PS4 in 2017?

Apr 05, 2017

2016's E3 was one for the record books (the broken record being most awesome E3 conference ever.) Sony's E3 press event kicked off with an insanely impressive reveal of the new God of War which was accompanied by a live orchestra. Later on in the show, the rumors were confirmed to be trueSpider-Man would be coming to PlayStation 4 and looking dang good, too. These games seemed to be pretty far off from release but a collection of fresh rumors suggest a 2017 release date for both games.

Spider-Man May Be Super-Soon

Though many rumors, pre-E3, had speculated that Sucker Punch would be leaving the inFAMOUS series behind to develop Spider-Man however it seems like Ratchet and Clank developers, Insomniac Games, will be working on the new game. After an awesome, AWESOME, E3 trailer -- which you can see below -- Insomniac Games went quiet about the status of the game, other than a short look at what we've already seen at the PlayStation 4 Pro event. That silence made many gamers think that Spider-Man PS4 wouldn't see a release for a long while, but maybe those naysayers were wrong.

The dream of a sooner release began last year when Insomniac Games responded to a tweet complaining about waiting for 2 years to release by saying "who said it was 2 years away?" Though that response got me excited, we still didn't hear anything else about the game. Until recently when Ryan Penagos, the vice president and executive editor of Marvel Digital Media, referenced a 2017 release year for the game. However, Insomniac Games soon hopped back onto Twitter to say "no release timeframe has been announced."

The God of War Returns

Kratos returns to PlayStation without an accompanying release date but Twitter gives us another hint at the game's possible 2017 release date. Christopher Judge, the voice actor who will be playing Kratos in the upcoming game, updated his bio that listed "God of War" to now say "God of War (2017,)" and if that's not a hint I don't know what is. God of War's developer, Santa Monica Studios, has been quiet on Twitter -- unlike Insomniac Games -- so that listing stands pretty true as is, especially considering that nobody asked Judge to change his Twitter bio back.

Our next confirmation of Kratos' resurgence comes from an ad campaign in Spain. A collection of posters have been sighted referencing Father's Day, which is a fun joke to make, but would seem odd for a game so far away -- unless that game isn't actually the far away. The poster, which you can see below, is roughly translated to "my dad can beat up yours" and appeared about a week before Spain's celebration of Father's Day. I've got high hopes that we'll see more God of War and Spider-Man at this year's E3 Press Conference, if not a little sooner.
