Nintendo's E3 2017 Spotlight Recap

Jun 13, 2016

By: Max Cannon

Since their last showing in 2012, Nintendo has totally ditched the standard E3 press conference. There's no stage, no orchestra, no crazy screens, but there is their Nintendo Spotlight in its place. Think of Nintendo's E3 press conference as this one long video that I'll have summarized for you here. Fingers crossed that we get a new Super Smash Bros on the Switch.

Rocket League Is Coming to the Switch

In an opening sizzle reel we saw quick looks at  ARMS, FIFA, Pokken Tournament DX, and Splatoon on the Nintendo Switch but the real star announcement there was Rocket League. Before the show even really started we got this fantastic nugget of news. Later on in the show they returned to it with exclusive Nintendo customization, cars, cross-network play, and a Holiday 2017 release date.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2

The original Xenoblade Chronicles was a niche indie title that quickly became extremely valuable, a massive open world RPG. The flashy trailer for the next game, Xenoblade Chronicles 2,  is coming during the Holiday season of 2018. Here's that new trailer!

Kirby's Next Adventure

A traditional Kirby adventure, simple but well executed, has made some of the series' best entries. While there wasn't too much information, outside of new moves, and Co-Op gameplay, we did see a 2018 release window for the upcoming Kirby title. Taking a look at this gameplay tells you everything you'll need to know.

Core Pokémon Title on Nintendo Switch

What everyone has wanted to hear for years is finally true. A mainline, "core," Pokémon title will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. We didn't get much information aside from that it may be more than a year away. This explains why Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon didn't make their way to the Switch because we'll be getting something with more focus for the Switch.

It's Really Happening

An image of a 4 turns into Metroid Prime 4. That's all it was. But it still got me hyped out of my mind. Maybe the biggest E3 announcement so far.

Yoshi's Next Title

In the vein of Yoshi's Wooly World, this new Yoshi game just has a 2018 release but brings some Co-Op into the mix. Leaning even harder into the new direction they're taking Yoshi games it has a definite Little Big Planet vibe.

Fire Emblem Warriors Coming to Switch

Our first big look at the next Fire Emblem brings series favorite Marth into the fight, who you may know from Super Smash Bros. You can take a look at the new trailer right here!

Breath of the Wild's New DLC

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was one of this year's greatest games, and an awesome launch for the Switch, but we've seen little of the DLC actually in action. This new trailer showed of the first piece of DLC, The Master Trial, which launches on June 30th in just a couple of weeks. On top of that news, we got a title for the next piece of DLC, The Champion's Ballad, and a look at the Amiibo that'll be releasing alongside it.

Super Mario Odyssey Gets a Date

Releasing on October 27, 2017, Super Mario Odyssey got even crazier with this new trailer. New features, costumes, and locations are shown off in this new trailer, with a catchy song. This game seems to redefine what a Mario game really is. Here's the surprising trailer.
