The Best Xbox One Games

May 01, 2018

By: Max Cannon

If you're looking for the highest quality visuals and performance in console gaming then the Xbox One X is the console for you and the system's excellent lineup has some truly awesome games in it. Check out our list of the best Xbox One games.

5. Halo 5: Guardians

The Halo franchise is undoubtedly the most important brand in the Xbox's catalog. As the Xbox 360 brought us some of the best entries in the series, everyone was eagerly anticipating what would happen to the Master Chief on Xbox One.While the story brought some radical changes to characters and gameplay, the new multiplayer modes felt tailor-made for the professional Halo player. Here's hoping future entries in the series can bring a tighter campaign along with it.

4. Forza Horizon 3

While the simulation feel of Forza Motorsport has its following, my favorite racer is the fun and fast Forza Horizon 3. Taking place in an incredibly photogenic take on Australia, Forza Horizon 3 is a blast to pick up and play regardless of your skill level. Not only is the base game a ton of fun, the expansions take players to snowy mountains and most interestingly a Hot Wheels racing course.

3. Ori and the Blind Forest

Ori quickly becomes memorable from the powerful opening but the gameplay will keep you engaged all the way throughout. The game's vibrant art style was easy on the eyes especially in the earlier years of this console generation. On top of being one of our favorite Xbox games, the upcoming sequel is one of the game's we're most excited for in 2018 (fingers crossed it actually releases.) Also, this is more affordable than the games with that standard $60 price tag.

2. Fortnite

This massive game also made our list of best PlayStation 4 games and it had to be on our Xbox One list as well. Though I'd initially thought that PUBG would be the game occupying my time more, Fortnite's commitment to quality has made it the gold standard of Battle Royale games. The only place that Xbox struggles behind PlayStation with the game is that Xbox Gold is required, the Xbox One X version runs beautifully at a high resolution comparable to a high-end PC.

From our Best PlayStation Games article:

"I don't think anyone saw a game like Fortnite being as successful as it has become. From the creators of Gears of War, Fortnite is a 100 player fight to be the last player standing. What initially seemed like a free-to-play ripoff of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds became a polished and well-performing social phenomenon. The rap superstar Drake is even open about his love for the game which is clear evidence of how far the love for this title has spread. If you have a PS4 there is no reason to skip this game, it's fun, free, and family-friendly!"

1. Cuphead

Not a game for the faint of heart Cuphead is a beautiful game that is immensely challenging but easy on the eyes. Stylized like a cartoon from the 1930s, this game is a side-scrolling shooter with an emphasis on boss fights. The game is entirely drawn by hand which makes Cuphead one of the best looking games of all time. Just a look at a screenshot of the game is enough to make me want to play it.
