Could this be an open-world adventure?

Jan 30, 2019

It's been a big year for fans of Dragon Ball and 2019 is poised to keep up the pace. After the year kicked off the with the new movie, we have gotten confirmation of a new Dragon Ball RPG coming to consoles and PC later this year. Not only that, but fans of last year's Dragon Ball FighterZ have got some new DLC content to look forward to.

A New Dragon Ball RPG

While this was confirmed by Bandai Namco at the beginning of the year, it was surprising to see footage of the untitled Dragon Ball game which is simply referred to as "Project Z" for the time being. Dragon Ball has played around with games that stray away from the traditional fighting games that you've likely seen from the franchise. For example, way back in 2005, we saw the release of a disappointing game titled Dragon Ball Z: Sagas that seemed to play around with a more open-type of Dragon Ball game. Unfortunately, that game was so disappointing that our reviewer didn't mince words and said that "Unfortunately, this game is packed full of so much suck that it hurts." Ouch. Let's hope for better things from this project.

DRAGON BALL GAME – PROJECT Z: Announcement Trailer

While there isn't too much to learn from the new game's trailer that you can check out above. You can tell that the game will take place over much of the Dragon Ball Z series and will, of course, star Goku. We got a brief look at some exploration but there's no way of knowing if the game is open-world yet or we're just seeing a very open snippet of the game. Take a look at the footage for yourself!

New Characters in FighterZ

That's not all the Dragon Ball news out there that'll excite gamers. 2018's Dragon Ball FighterZ is poised to get some more content added into the game. This stylistic 2D fighter nails the look and feel of the fights in the original anime. So we're excited for a chance to return to the game to check out the upcoming DLC characters which include Jiren and Videl on January 31st. Gogeta and Broly -- from the new movie -- will also be coming at a later date. We've got another trailer for you to feast your eyes on:

DRAGON BALL FighterZ - FighterZ Pass 2 Announcement Trailer

We absolutely loved this game. If you're considering picking up Dragon Ball FighterZ, especially following the news of these new characters, check out our review! Here's a bit of what we had to say:

"While the story is mediocre and the lobbies are confusing, the actual gameplay is so impressive that I have no problem calling this the greatest Dragon Ball game ever made. Some slight changes to future entries could possibly see this series growing into the gold standard of fighting games but for now the fighting is so astounding that I'm ready to look past the small mistakes."
