UPDATE AGAIN

The hour long digital event will kick off June 11th at 1 P.M. Pacific Time! The official announcement on the PlayStation blog also recommends wearing your best pair of headphones as well, so be ready for a crazy audio/visual experience!

After much waiting, speculating and pondering about the capabilities of the next PlayStation and the games soon to be enjoyed on it, we finally have an idea of exactly when we will learn more. The most concrete news up until this point was about its new controller, the DualSense.

PS5 - The Future of Gaming

The Next-Gen PlayStation

After getting a huge dose of Xbox Series X gameplay this month, and the recent unveiling of the Unreal Engine 5, it was difficult not imagining what PlayStation has up their sleeves. Vague details around the tech specs of the box clock it in as a certified monster of a console, but next to no details have yet been revealed in terms of the system’s games. There are a few non-PlayStation exclusive games confirmed to be coming to PS5 like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the science-fantasy third-person shooter, Outriders, set to make their debuts on PS5, but what about the long list of beloved PlayStation studios responsible for such hits as Horizon, Ratchet and Clank, and Marvel’s Spider-Man?

The Future of Gaming

The desire among fans to see what’s in store for the PS5’s launch later this year has been seen loud and clear by PlayStation.

“That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.” -Jim Ryan, CEO at PlayStation

Traditional Summer unveiling of new game announcements is being carried out a bit differently, with COVID-19 disrupting plans for the annual gathering of the industry during E3. Instead of a big live event where studios show off their latest work, games are going to be announced on various streams online all Summer long. It is exciting to think about what big games are going to show up for the stream on June 4th. We can expect about an hour of details including gameplay footage, and an upclose look at what fans are in for soon.
