Crash Bandicoot Returns in “It's About Time!”

A brand new game is coming that picks up right after the original PS1 classics!

Jun 23, 2020

This generation has seen the slow but triumphant return of famous mascot-platformer series Crash Bandicoot. First, we got the fantastic remakes of the first three games in the N. Sane Trilogy compilation that revived Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back and Warped from the original PlayStation. Then, we got Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, a nearly perfect remake of the Kart Racer that gave Mario Kart a run for its money. The natural progression of these releases is of course a brand new game, and it is coming this year on October 2nd, 2020. The new game is being developed by Toys for Bob, the team responsible for the widely popular Skylanders games as well as the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. It is a bit surprising that Vicarious Visions, the team behind the Crash N. Sane Trilogy isn’t in charge of this one, but judging by the trailer there isn’t much to worry about.

Picking Up 20 Years Later

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time takes place directly after the events of Crash: Warped. That game ended with Crash and Coco’s nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex and master of time Doctor Nefarious Tropy being trapped in a time bubble, a prison that makes Cortex and Tropy suspended in time. It seems, though, that all this did was give the villains plenty of time to come up with another dastardly plan to take over not just the universe itself, but the multi-verse as well. Crash and Coco will need the help of new Quantum Masks to set things right, and give them brand new abilities in the process. This game is ignoring all of the Crash releases after Warped and starting fresh, leaving games like Crash Twinsanity and Wrath of Cortex in the dust.

New Gameplay Possibilities

Much like the new Ratchet and Clank shown during the PlayStation 5 showcase, Crash 4 is a universe hopping adventure (there are even sections where Crash rides a grind rail). Crash and Coco will find themselves traversing new and unique worlds as they run, jump, and platform across these new levels. You will find yourself in lush jungles, futuristic cities, pirate coves, and underground dungeons, and will take control of Crash and Coco, as well as Dr. Cortex himself for some sections. The original games are known for being incredibly difficult sometimes, and to help new players get into the fun there are two modes you can choose. If you love that old school difficulty, choose Retro mode but if you want to play the game with infinite lives, you can too.
