Champions Unite in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Trailer!

The new Zelda Musou game is looking fantastic.

Sep 28, 2020

One of Nintendo’s recent surprise announcements was Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a prequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Instead of serving as a sequel to the first Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity ties straight into the world of Hyrule as seen in Breath of the Wild. The story showcases the grand conflict that plunged the kingdom into darkness. You get the chance to play as the Divine Beast Champions that you meet in Breath of the Wild, and each has their own flavor in combat. The presentation of this game is leaps and bounds ahead of the original, and it looks just like the mainline Zelda game it is based on.

Distinct Playstyles

In this game, you won’t just be playing as Link. This time, the entire lineup of Divine Beast champions plus Link and Zelda are in charge of driving off the overwhelming odds of Ganon’s monster forces. The trailer shows off how each character plays. Mipha, the Zora Champion wields the forces of water and creates a water cyclone that sucks up enemies in her path. Daruk the Goron is the tank of the party, using his massive fists and shield technique to roll through hordes of enemies. Urbosa of the Gerudo uses a mix of elegance and grace as she mixes both blade and magic to defend her home in the desert. Revali the Rito uses the wind and his bow to keep monsters at bay, and together all these heroes set out to defeat Ganon. Unfortunately, Breath of the Wild players will already know how this turns out, but it is still going to be awesome seeing how the story unfolds before Link’s long slumber. We even get to play as Impa, one of the main characters from Breath of the Wild 100 years younger!
