Super Paper Mario :: Nintendo Wii Game Review

Flip 2D into 3D with Mario and crew as you save the Mushroom Kingdom from a new villain! Is this new game a blast? We review it!

Princess Peach married Bowser?!? It gets weirder than that though - the evil Count Bleck is behind the surprise wedding of the year and he's using the weird wedding to unleash a Chaos Heart and put the Mushroom Kingdom, and the rest of the universe, in danger. Gary got twice his daily dose of weird by playing this kooky video game and here's his game review!

Dimensional Flip-Flopping!

It starts off like a regular goomba-stomping, power-up collecting Mario game, but takes a trip to wackyland real quick! Mario is joined by Luigi, Peach and even Bowser on his adventure and you can swap characters as you play. Each one has special powers and can gain levels by bashing bad guys for experience. You're also joined by Pixls, weird little creatures that help you with even more cool abilities. But, the weirdest thing is that Mario can turn the whole world sideways and enter 3D mode! This unlocks strange ways to dodge bad guys, find hidden passages and some really bizarre puzzle-solving.

Freaky Fun for Nintendo Wii

What's awesome is that Super Paper Mario is a game with a sense of humor! It's also super easy to play and you don't have to thrash your Wiimote like a spastic octopus to do anything. The graphics have style, the levels are fun and mind-bendingly bizarre thanks to Mario's 3D power and you can play as Bowser!

Paper Cuts Suck

Unfortunately, Super Paper Mario was designed for the Gamecube, not the Wii, then it was transferred over. This leaves it with some weak sound and graphics and it barely uses the Wiimote, which is a bummer.

Fun or Flat?

It's wacky, it's weird, it's... fun! The latest Mario adventure doesn't just let you stomp around as Bowser, it's a fun adventure that's loaded with laughs, awesome boss battles and a whole bunch of fun. Plus, the Pixls are super cool.

Thumbs Up:

  • Control Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and even Bowser!
  • Unlock bonus abilities with Pixls.
  • Good jokes and sense of humor!
  • Minigames and leveling up!

Thumbs Down:

  • The sound is weak and the graphics are a bit old.

Game Rating: 5
