So You Think You Can Dance 6 Vegas Day 2

Oct 15, 2009

It’s day 2 of Vegas week on So You Think You Can Dance Season 6, and the competition is getting tougher with every round of eliminations. Most of the people who stood out in their auditions were sent home on day 1, and day 2 is no different. But looking at the talented and surprisingly diverse dancers who have made it through to the final round, it’s clear that season 6 won’t disappoint. Mia Michaels even says that she thinks “season 6 is going to blow season 5 out of the water.

Jazz Routine

The contestants began day 2 by learning a jazz routine. This was the moment of truth for many dancers. In their own styles, they’re brilliant; in jazz, many didn’t make the cut, including the husband of one of the married couples, the same-sex ballroom dancer, and the world ballroom dancing champion. Mollee Gray, and 18 year old hopeful from California, did make it through, but not without an injured ankle.

Overnight Routines

Next came the dreaded overnight choreography round. The remaining contestants were split into groups, given a song and dance style, and told to choreograph their own dance. For some, like Russell the Crumper’s group, it was a piece of cake. They were done by 11:00pm and performed perfectly in the morning. But for most, uncertainty, frustration and clashing personalities kept them practicing into the early morning hours.

Contemporary and Broadway

Two more rounds of choreography followed: contemporary with Mia Michaels, in which the hip-hop dancers really held their own, and broadway with Tyse Diorio. Our remaining married couple both made it through the final round, along with Bianca the tap dancer.

Make sure you don’t miss next week’s episode as the judges decide on this season’s top 20 dancers.
