The Best PlayStation 4 Games of 2018

What did the world's most popular console offer up this year?

If you only have one modern console then it's pretty likely that it's a PlayStation 4. Sony's mega-popular console had a fantastic year in 2018 with some awesome exclusives and the return of some 3rd party classics. Check out our thoughts on the best PlayStation 4 games of 2018.

3. Spyro Reignited Trilogy

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy isn't an exclusive on the PlayStation 4 but back in the day of the original games, Spyro games were only available on the PlayStation 1. This return to the world of Spyro surprised me because the games were even better than I remembered and the obvious visual boost really made it feel like I was playing a living cartoon. Last year's disappointing release of Yooka-Laylee made it seem like 3D collect-a-thon type games were best left in the past but Spyro showed that with a little style and smooth gameplay there is still life in this classic kind of game.

"The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is as perfect of a remake as you could hope for. While it may be light on challenge, the three games are full of charm and appropriate for a gamer of any age. Though Crash Bandicoot was our 2nd favorite family game of 2017, I'd be surprised if Spyro wasn't the best family game of 2018." Check out the full review here!

2. Shadow of the Colossus

This isn't the only stellar remake on the PlayStation 4 in 2018. While Spyro embraces the silly and cartoonish style of the early days of PlayStation, Shadow of the Colossus shows how a game could really be considered art. The word is "epic" is thrown around a lot in gaming but the experience of riding across an expansive field, navigating an ancient ruin, and then climbing to the top of a massive monster is undeniably epic.

"Shadow of the Colossus on the PS4 is another excuse to play through one of the greatest games of all time. A simple and moving story, epic gameplay, and a mysterious world will keep players engaged as much now as it did 13 years ago. Newcomers and veterans alike will be happy to sink some time here but be wary if you were expecting to see something you haven't experience before." Check out the full review!

1. Marvel's Spider-Man

Also similar to Spyro, Marvel's Spider-Man is developed by Insomniac Games who have a long history with PlayStation. Though gamers have fond memories of classics like Ultimate Spider-Man or Spider-Man 2 based on the mid-2000's movie, there have been many more bad Spider-Man games than good ones. Insomniac has officially turned the tide with Spider-Man and brought us the greatest game with that hero we've ever seen.

"Marvel's Spider-Man boasts a memorable story that does justice to a classic character. The setpieces are awesome, the story regularly put a smile on my face, and the swinging is satisfying." Check out the full review here!
