Top Decks at the 2004 Yu-Gi-Oh! National Championships

There were only a handful of big deck strategies that duelists were using to battle at the big tournament. The big-name decks were nicknamed "Chaos/Control", "Magic Scientist" and "Last Turn" - here's how they work.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Chaos/Control Deck Strategy

This deck kicks butt in two ways: #1 is control - it uses cards to destroy all of its opponents traps and monsters, it also wipes out the cards in their hand so they can't pull off their combos. Once it has control, it brings out one of the scariest cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! game - Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End. This big, bad, bruiser wipes out every card in play and all the cards in both players' hands. It's worse than that though - every card it wipes out this way does 300 damage to your opponent. So, before this 3000 attack bad boy hits the table it's going to cause your opponent a world of hurt. Then it starts hitting for 3000 points per turn and it's all over, fast.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Last Turn Deck Strategy

The secret to this deck is the card Last Turn - it wipes out all but one of your monsters, then lets your opponent Special Summon the biggest monster in his/her deck and whichever one is the biggest wins. That's not so hot, but it is when you combine it with Jowgen the Spiritualist 'cuz he makes it so your opponent can't Special Summon anything. To win with this deck, get Jowgen into play then drop the Last Turn card. Your opponent gets no monster so you win! The only tricky part is that you can't play Last Turn until your life is at 1000 or less - the good news is that there are cards, like Inspection, that'll let you drop your life points so you can play the card whenever you want.
