Top 10 Wii U Games Of All Time

Mar 01, 2016

With the announcement that Nintendo was reducing the price on some great Wii U games, Kidzworld thought it was time to update our list of what we think are the best games available on Wii U. So without further ado, let the countdown begin!

#10) Pikmin 3

It took nearly ten years for Nintendo to create a sequel to Pikmin 2 but the wait was worth it. Pikmin 3 is a fantastic real-time strategy game. As one of three space captains, you command a horde of cute Pikman and navigate the world hunting for secrets and the required seeds needed to save your home planet, koppai, from starvation. You need to use each of the Pikmin's various abilities to navigate the world and thwart off the dangers around you. Kidzworld's review of Pikmin 3 can be found right here!

#9) Shovel Knight

Take the classic retro games, Super Mario Bros. 3, DuckTales and Mega Man and smash them all together. That's basically what Shovel Knight is and it is awesome. The perfect homage to some of the greats while also creating it's own iconic new character in the titular Shovel Knight. Read Kidzworld's Shovel Knight game review.

#8) Rayman Legends

The new Rayman series running on the UbiArt Framework engine is the only platforming series on Wii U that truly gives Super Mario a run for his money. The gameplay is so smooth and the visuals are to die for. Plus, there are some incredible musical levels that have you bouncing through the world to the beat of some of the most recognizable songs out there. If you haven't played Rayman Legends yet, what are you waiting for? Go play it now!

#7) Bayonetta 2

Nintendo has got one of the greatest action games ever made, exclusively on the Wii U. The action is so over the top you wonder how Platinum Games will top one scene to the next, but they do and they do it with style. Bayonetta 2 was our pick for Wii U game of the year in 2014.

#6) Super Mario 3D World

Inventive new levels, ridiculously fun 4 player gameplay and some of the cutest new ability granting suits ever. Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U is a must own game for Mario fans, especially those with a family filled with like-minded gamers. Kidzworld loved the game, giving it 5/5 in our Super Mario 3D World review!

#5) Splatoon

Easily Nintendo's biggest and best surprise of 2015. Splatoon continued to improve after launch to become one of the best multiplayer experiences you can have today. No other competitive multiplayer game is as charming and able to put a smile on your face like Splatoon. Watch over 2 hours of multiplayer action here!

#4) Super Smash Bros.

Designer Masahiro Sakurai once said that he hoped to create the greatest character mash-up video game ever . Well, he pulled it off. Super Smash Bros. Wii U is an incredible package that offers endless fun offline and online for fighting game fans. If you really need to settle an argument with friends over who would win in a brawl between Sonic The Hedgehog, Super Mario or -ahem, Pac-Man then this is the game for you. #3) The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker got a a lot of negative buzz from fans when it was initially revealed in back around 2001 because it dropped the realistic art style that was teased months before for a fresher, more cartoon like appearance. But once fans got their hands on it their tune quickly changed. With the release of The Wind Waker HD on Wii U, the game got upgraded with even better visuals and greatly appreciated tweaks to item management and sailing.

It is now looked at as one of the best entries in the Legend Of Zelda series, rightfully so. Read Kidzworld's review of The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

#2) Super Mario Maker

For fans that prefer 2D platforming over the 3D kind. Super Mario Maker is possibly the only Mario game you ever need. With an incredibly intuitive level editor, you can build your own Super Mario levels in minutes in the style of the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. You can even bend the rules and create things never seen in a Mario game before! But if creating is not really your thing, there are endless quality levels being created and shared online by the community. With thousands available now and more being added every single day. #1) Mario Kart 8

With an insane amount of really great tracks and multiple vehicle types. As well as the best gameplay in the series yet and genuinely stunning visuals. Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U is simply put, the best kart racing game ever made. The only downfall is a weak battle mode. But everything other aspect of Mario Kart 8 is top of the class.
