Mat Hoffman made history at the 2002 X Games, Aaron Alvey was a strikeout machine at the Little League World Series and Michael Finley helped the United States knock off China. Which of these should be the Kidzworld Athlete of the Week? or vote in our online poll above.

Mat Hoffman's 900
Mat Hoffman made BMX history at the 2002 X Games by pulling off the world's first no-handed 900 in the BMX vert finals on August 17th. That's two and a half turns in the air with no hands! This mind-blowing maneuver helped Mat Hoffman win the silver medal at the X Games and also earned him a nomination for the Kidzworld Athlete of the Week.

Aaron Alvey at the LLWS
Aaron Alvey threw fire and hit for power to lead his Louisville, Kentucky Little League baseball team to 2-1 win over Fort Worth, Texas in the US semi-finals of the 2002 Little League World Series on August 22nd. Aaron struck out 19 batters over nine innnings, then hit the game-winning homerun in the top of the 11th inning to give his baseball team the victory. More importantly, Aaron Alvey earned a nomination for the Kidzworld Athlete of the Week.

Michael Finley Leads Team USA
Michael Finley scored 19 points and dished out five assists as Team USA thrashed China 84-54 on August 22nd. Much of the crowd came to see Chinese star, Yao Ming, but Finley and the rest of his teammates stole the show. The game should be a sign of things to come for Team USA which is a heavy favorite to the win the World Basketball Championships which start on August 29th in Indianapolis.

Who do you think should be the Kidzworld Athlete of the Week? or vote in the online poll above.

I'm in marching band, and I don't consider it a sport.Yes, I'll admit that marching band can be physically demanding, but it isn't a sport. Marching band is nothing like soccer, lacrosse, rugby, tennis, boxing, etc. Comparing marching band to a sport like rubgy, hockey, cross country, or whatever is just... kind of ridiculous. You can argue that it does require some physical-ness, which it does. But it's just walking in tempo. It does involve some endurance to stand out in the sun and play an instrument for a while, but doing so isn't really that hard.
