We all know Ed Westwick, the actor who plays bad boy Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl. But, did you know Ed actually got his start in music? He was born in a suburb of London, England and studied acting at the National Youth Theatre (along with fellow celeb Orlando Bloom). Ed became the lead singer of The Filthy Youth, an indie rock band based in Britain. They reached some success with hits like ‘Boy Don’t Smoke’ and ‘The Confidence’.
During this time Ed also focused on his acting career. He made appearances on two TV shows – Doctors and Casualty – before landing a role in the 2006 Hollywood movie Children of Men. He also filmed the movie Breaking and Entering alongside Jude Law.
Gossip Guy
In 2007 Ed landed the role of a lifetime as Chuck Bass on The CW’s new show Gossip Girl. The series focuses on the lives of rich and privileged Upper East Side teens as they deal with love and life. Ed’s character Chuck is the son of a wealthy businessman. Chuck spends much of the show trying to impress his father and hide his attraction for Blair, his best friend’s girlfriend. Gossip Girl will be entering its fifth season in September 2011.
Ed Westwick has two upcoming movie projects in the works. The first is J. Edgar, a film about the first head of the FBI, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Naomi Watts. The second is a retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Ed will be headlining the film with actress Hailee Steinfeld.
