Spyro is back and hes brought a whole bunch of friends to save Skyland from Chaos! Get all the details about this toy and game combo in our game review!

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure is an action/platformer game, similar to Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario Galaxy. The twist here, however, is that each game comes with a few toy figurines and a "portal". By placing the toy on the portal, you can play as that toy's character in the game!

Skylanders Assemble!

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure features five different worlds with five levels each. In these levels, there are five crystals that you can collect to unlock more levels. Levels are either linear maps where you try to complete various objectives or a battle arena where you have to fight waves of enemies. At certain points in every level, the evil Hektore will start to chase you, making each level an intense race to the finish. Overall, the game itself is pretty easy, but it does slowly get harder.

Collecting all the crystals is a challenge for sure. Each Skylander represents one of eight elemental types and get special bonuses in certain levels. In fact, you can only access certain areas if you have a Skylander of that element. Switching between Skylanders is as simple as taking your current toy off the portal and replacing it with another.

Portal Power

What's cool about the toys is that your character's game data is saved onto them. Your toy remembers your character's level and all the upgrades that you got for them. You can take your toy and put them on a different portal and play with your character, even if it is a different console!

Overall, the game is well-made and fun. The portal itself can act wonky sometimes. The only big issue is the fact that every game comes with the same three figurines. If you want to play with all 32 characters, you will need to buy them separately at $8 apiece. While you can play through the whole game with just the three figures included with the game, you won't be able to get 100% completion.
