Lennon and Maisy Band Bio

May 20, 2013

Sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella have swept the internet with their touching covers of popular songs, and have even appeared on the TV show Nashville and been asked to play at Fashion Week! Find out more in their Kidzworld Bio!

Canadian Kids

You might say that music runs in the family, Lennon and Maisy are the daughters of a Canadian country duo called The Stellas (their last name is Stella). The girls grew up in and around Canada. Lennon is 13-years-old and Maisy is just 9-years-old. The girls have dished about growing up in a musical environment, Maisy told Coup de Main Magazine:

"We've always loved music and our parents obviously, are a duo - it's always been a musical environment. My Mom has seven brothers and sisters - she's one of eight - and her sister Tracy is musical as well as her brothers, it's all a musical environment as far as my Mom's side of the family.

Awesome Online

These amazing sisters have always been surrounded by music, but they really turned heads once they started posting their covers of songs on YouTube, in fact their acapella cover of Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend," where they use a couple of empty butter tins as percussion instruments, spread through the internet like wildfire! Lennon's voice is souldful beyond her years, and both girls are able to play instruments. This cover alone gained them celebrity fans like Harry Styles (of One Direction) and Amy Poehler! Check out the video that started the buzz below!

Nashville Newbies

Despite their rising fame, Lennon and Maisy's parents kept them in school, so when they were asked to perform for designer Marc Jacobs at Fashion Week the girls could only send in a video (needless to say, it was a smash!) They also started booking small gigs and festivals and continued to put their videos online. Their major breakthrough came when they were asked to be a part of the show Nashville! On the show they play characters much like themselves, two young sisters whose talent can't be denied. Check them out on Nashville below!

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
