Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Battlefront II Each Get a Trailer

Apr 16, 2017

As a part of the annual Star Wars Celebration, this year taking place in Orlando, Florida, Lucasfilm released the first trailer and poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Our First Look At The Last Jedi

Without wasting any more time, check out the brand spanking new trailer.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Official Teaser

Shown off by Episode 8's director, Rian Johnson, this is the first bit of footage that anyone's seen from the upcoming film. Still maintaining a fair bit of mystery, this trailer seems to give off a much a darker vibe than the light-hearted return we saw in Star Wars: The Force Awakens back in 2015. This more sinister feel seems to mirror the original Star Wars trilogy's leap from Star Wars: A New Hope to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Fans of the series will be delighted to know that the trailer teases the return of one of the most beloved heroes in movie history, Luke Skywalker. However, as exciting as it is to see our iconic Jedi, Luke seems to be bearing some bad news. The trailer wraps up with Skywalker ominously stating that "it's time for the Jedi to end."

A Dark Trailer With A Dark Poster

That aforementioned tone is equally as dark in the movie's poster. Heavily featuring red, a color associated with the evil Sith in the series, Luke Skywalker is divided by a lightsaber from his former student, and The Force Awakens villain, Kylo Ren.

The other clear connection is Rey's stance, an obvious homage to the original Star Wars poster. The classic design from the late 70's featured Luke Skywalker in the hero's role but has substituted Rey for the protagonist's role, a passing of the torch that began during the finale of Star Wars: The Force AwakensStar Wars: The Last Jedi will release on December 15th, 2017.

More Than A Movie

After the leak of Star Wars Battlefront II's trailer earlier in the week, EA Games officially revealed the game with a longer, more detailed trailer. After the mixed response to the reboot in 2015, Battlefront's developer DICE has responded by really upping the ante with the new game. The new game will include a single-player campaign, written with help by former IGN editor Mitch Dyer. In another move that some gamers consider "pro-consumer," Star Wars: Battlefront 2 won't have a season pass and any additional content coming to the game will be free of charge for anyone owning the main game. Console players will even be able to take advantage of local split-screen, a feature lacking from most modes in the previous game.

Star Wars Battlefront II: Full Length Reveal Trailer

The new game will feature a story taking place at the end of Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi and finishing up around the end of Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens. The new trailer includes cameos from Rey, Yoda, Darth Maul and even more iconic characters from the series.  Star Wars Battlefront II will release on November 15, 2017.
