Star Wars: The Last Jedi Character Guide

Dec 08, 2017

Let’s catch up with heroes and villains from a galaxy, far, far, away as well as meet news friends and foes. Here’s what we know about who’s in the film and where they’re at in the latest installment of Lucasfilm’s saga Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Rey

Arriving on Ach-To, the last Jedi Temple island, Rey (Daisy Ridley) finds Luke Skywalker. Picking up where The Force Awakens left off, we see Rey under the guidance of the Jedi Master who grows to fear her natural power over the force.

Luke Skywalker

The aging reclusive Jedi (Mark Hamill) meets Rey, who is determined to master her raw connection with the force. The original trilogy hero is reluctant after failing to rescue his nephew Ben from the Dark Side. Will Luke Skywalker mentor our heroine Rey or will he be the last Jedi?

General Leia

Reeling from the loss of Han Solo at the hands of their son, General Leia (Carrie Fisher) gets back to work as the core leader of the Resistance. Facing uncertain and potentially tragic choices, she presses on for her movement as their pillar of strength.

Kylo Ren

The conflict inside Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) only builds after the events in The Force Awakens where he killed his father. Having been deeply injured by Rey in their last duel, Ren is now out to find her and bring her to the Supreme Leader of the First Order.

Snoke

The mysterious figure that rose from the ashes of the Empire, Supreme leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) leads the first order with Kylo Ren by his side. His influence over Ren, grandson to Darth Vader, is what led to the balance of the force being tilted toward the darkside in their quest to be rid of the Jedi and gain prominence with the First Order. With the discovery of Luke’s whereabouts on a map and Rey’s shocking display of power that matches Ren’s, Snoke now seeks to find the woman who may be the true key to ruling the galaxy.

General Hux

Snoke’s commanding military officer leads their stormtrooper army to keep the galaxy under the tyranny of the first order. Competitive with Kylo Ren, Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) seeks ways to undermine his colleague whose strength keeps wavering in the face of his family and ultimately Rey. Having also faced a great loss as his Starkiller base was destroyed by the resistance, he seeks to retaliate in The Last Jedi.

Poe Dameron

The X-Wing pilot and hero of the Resistance, Poe (Oscar Issac) returns to guide gunners for the movement in the fleet as they recover from taking down Starkiller base.  Making sure they’re ready for the next First Order strike, he leads their military under General Leia.

Finn

The former stormtrooper turned good guy, Finn (John Boyega) recovers from his unexpected journey with Rey, Solo and BB-8 which led to his life-threatening lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren. Still being chased down by Phasma, Finn considers going on the run once more away from everything that happened. By fate he meets Rose, a Resistance mechanic, who idolizes him for being a hero and he finds himself struggling to see himself as the figure the good guys see him as.

Rose Tico

After meeting Finn, a Resistance mechanic and sister to a gunner, Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) embarks on a new journey that leads her new friend on a mission to the casino metropolis of Canto Bight on the world of Cantonica. The duo end up crossing paths with a nefarious character with skills they may need does but who may not be the most trustworthy of folks.

DJ

Benicio Del Toro plays DJ, a mysterious rogue who’s role in the film is connected to Finn and Rose’s. While not much is known about him, we do know that he’s a drifter of sorts with a particular set of skills that make him both dangerous and an asset. But to who depends on who he sees will benefit him the most.

Phasma

Gwendoline Christie returns as Phasma, the intimidating chrome trooper of the First Order. And she’s out for blood, Finn’s specifically. Can’t wait to see round two between those two!

Admiral Amilyn Holdo

Originally an ally to General Leia, Admiral Amilyn Holdo (Laura Dern) becomes a leader of the Resistance after the destruction left behind from the Starkiller base attack. Her role in the action grows in The Last Jedi when we meet the lilac haired Admiral who is one of the military heads of the Resistance who might clash with the choices made by fellow leaders Leia and Poe.

Chewbacca

We last saw the wookie traveling aboard the Millennium Falcon with Rey to find Luke. In the trailer we see him interacting with the adorable Porg.

BB-8

Looks like we’ll be seeing more of BB-8 in action in The Last Jedi in battle as Poe’s astromech droid.

BB-9E

A cuter darker astromech droid will be getting introduced. A First Order version of the BB unit will make its debut.

R2-D2

After waking up from his slumber, R2 leads Rey and Chewie to Luke. He’s reunited with his master.

C-3PO

No doubt he’s fussing about around General Leia saying, “We’re doomed”

Porg

The Ach-To space penguin creature that we can’t wait to find out more about and who likely has stowed away on the Falcon much to Chewie’s surprise.
