Super Player:
Make your own player and use the name of an actual player like Peter Forsberg, Jaromir Jagr, Sandis Ozolinsh, Chris Pronger, Patrick Roy or Ed Belfour. It'll ask if you want to use his ratings, hit 'Yes', then adjust them as needed. If you want to boost them, you can use your NHL Challenge points. When you're finished adjusting stuff go back to the name screen and change his name.

Three Minute Power Play:
Want a couple minutes of power play action? Get one of your players into a fight with another player. If he clobbers you and you don't hit back at all he gets a 5-minute penalty and you only get 2 minutes in the box. That gives you three minutes to thump the other guys.

The Hammer Player
Make your own player with "Hammer" as his first name. The refs will call him "The Hammer" during the game. The Hammer may not get you bonus points, but hey - cool name.
