Santi Starts

Santi White, now known as Santogold, has been working in the music scene for a while now. She went to college at Wesleyan University, double majoring in Music and African-American studies, and worked for Epic Records as an A & R rep before deciding to focus on writing and producing music for herself and others.

Punk Rock Roots

As her music career began, Santogold was the lead singer for Stiffed, a punk rock, ska band from Philadelphia, and after completing two albums, she was offered a solo contract by Lizard King Records. Her first singles, Creator and L.E.S. Artistes blew up on the internet as digital downloads and YouTube favorites. She also appeared on Mark Ronson's 2007 album Version.

Mainstream

With the release of her new album, Santogold, Santi was well received and named an artist to watch by reputable music sources such as Rolling Stone and Spin. Recently, Santogold, N.E.R.D. and Julian Casablancas of The Strokes put together the song My Drive Thru, which was featured on the Converse website as a free download. Now that the music industry is buzzing with talk about Santogold, she is touring with Coldplay throughout their North American tour, and will surely be headlining her own tour soon enough.

In addition to her own material, Santi has written songs for Lily Allen and Ashlee Simpson.

Santogold songs have appeared in ads for Bud Light, VO5 hair products and EA Sports video games.

Santogold, the album, features producers and DJs such as Sinden, Diplo, Switch, and more.

Santi has toured with M.I.A., Bjork, and Architecture in Helsinki.

(About comparisons to M.I.A.) "I can't think of anybody who would be a better fit of somebody who I'm like... I think what's accurate about that comparison is that she's an artist who has loads of different influences... and is putting things together in a way that's unexpected and genreless."
