The Best Games to Finish Up Summer With

Aug 20, 2018

By: Max Cannon

With summer sadly coming to an end and school starting soon -- if you're not in school already -- it's time to wrap up your warm weather games. Tons of new games are coming soon to wrap up 2018, with Marvel's Spider-Man coming to PS4 in just a few weeks, so it's a good time to finish any games you've started while you still have the time to play them! Here are the three best types of games to finish up summer with.

3. Multiplayer Games

Today's online games take a ton of time to finish up considering they're full of daily and weekly challenges! Every time you hop onto a game like Fortnite you'll be greeted to a new checklist of items to complete which will unlock new cosmetic items if you have the season's Battle Pass. These challenges can often be a big time commitment so these last days of summer are a quality chance to get those last few items you've been eyeing. Of course, this isn't exclusive to Fortnite, other online heavy games like Destiny 2 require a big-time commitment that you may not be able to keep up with during the school year. But unlocking new gear and leveling up your characters isn't the only reason to make the best of your summer multiplayer gaming!

Scheduling time to game is even easier when you know that everyone else has some free time as well. And some of the best games are experienced on the couch in an awesome session of co-op, like Overcooked or the recently released sequel Overcooked 2 and you're better off working in a study group during the school year.

2. Backlog Games

A backlog is what gamers refer to as the list of games you've missed out on but still intend to play. Maybe this is a game you picked up but never got around to, or a new addition to the PlayStation Plus/Xbox Games with Gold library that slipped past. If you're obsessed with getting trophies or achievements, like I know I am, this is a great window to finish up those last tasks. The summer is often a bit slower with fewer game releases than the rest of the year and from September on you're surrounded by big budget AAA games.

1. Classic Games

It's always a good time to revisit some of the best games from yesteryear. But when you've got the biggest and best thing coming around the corner during the holiday season it's best to take advantage of that slow season of releases. Most of us are going to spend our fall/holiday season playing games like Spider-Man and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate so this is a great chance to dive into that SNES Classic Edition to try out Super Mario World or to dig out that old Nintendo 64 to try out Ocarina of Time for the first time.
