Marvel’s Avengers and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Delayed

Two of Square Enix’s biggest games for the year are coming later than expected.

Jan 14, 2020

2020 is packed for game releases. The first half of the year alone is bringing us Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Dreams, Iron Man VR, Pokémon: Rescue Team DX, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Gears Tactics, Minecraft Dungeons, and I could go on and on. But, two of the most anticipated games, Marvel’s Avengers and the long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake, are arriving a bit later than we were first told.

Marvel’s Avengers

Square Enix’s Avengers game, that was originally supposed to come out on May 15th, 2020, is has been pushed out to September 4th, 2020. Marvel Games and Crystal Dynamics, the developers of the game, had this to say about the delay:

“When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine-tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve. The worldwide teams working on Marvel’s Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you’ve shown us. We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.”

Juggling all those Marvel heroes couldn’t have been an easy task for Crystal Dynamics, who you might know from two of the three recent Tomb Raider games. It might feel like a long wait, but it will most certainly be for the best in the end. Besides, it isn’t like there isn’t a ton of other great games coming to enjoy!

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

This one might sting for Final Fantasy fans, but it is not nearly as long as Avengers’ delay was.

“We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on. In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10th, 2020. We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer. Thank you for your patience and continued support”

So instead of the original March 3rd, 2020 release date, fans itching to revisit or experience for the first time the adventures of Cloud Strife will have to wait for just a little over a month longer for the game to come out. This one shouldn’t be too big of a surprise, as Final Fantasy and other Square Enix RPG’s have had a history of getting delayed this generation, but like Avengers, the wait will be worth it.

Fans have been waiting for a Final Fantasy 7 Remake for so long, and it is nearly here. The first part, anyway.Fans have been waiting for a Final Fantasy 7 Remake for so long, and it is nearly here. The first part, anyway.

“A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” -Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo
