The home of the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and more than one billion people will be the stage for the 2008 Olympics. The summer games are heading to Beijing, China.

The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing will be the first time the Olympics have been held in China and the first time the summer games have gone to Asia since Seoul, South Korea in 1988. Beijing was awarded the Olympics after a vote by members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Other cities who had hoped to get the games were Paris, Toronto, Osaka and Istanbul. There are more than 1.2 billion people in China, including 400 million who are under the age of 18. The population breakdown was a big reason the IOC decided to bring the games to China.
