Final Fantasy Tactics A2 :: DS Game Review

Courtesy of Square Enix
Starting off in an ordinary world, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (wow, what a name!) drops an ordinary kid through a magic book into the fantasy world of Ivalice. As the hero of the story, suddenly you're the leader of a clan of warriors in a world of monsters, magic and legend. With each adventure you fill another page in a mysterious journal that holds the secret to getting home. Gary took it for a spin and here's his Final Fantasy Tactics game review.
Ivalice or Bust
As a clan leader, you get a team of
fantasy characters to command. From
ninjas to wizards and even
Vikings, you get to customize their skills and combine them to form a team that can tackle any quest. You get the quests in towns and they challenge you to complete goals from
battling monsters to finding items and rescuing people. As you complete quests you power-up your characters and explore more of the world of Ivalice.
Fantastic Fantasy Fun
If you like
fantasy adventure, you're in luck because this game is packed with it! There are hundreds of quests, nearly
100 hours of gaming, auctions to take over areas, an entire clan to control and a
world to explore. With
56 jobs and over 100 items to play with, you can customize your clan in hundreds of different ways. Plus, you can trade with your
friends to help
unlock powerful items!
Some Stupid Stuff
Unfortunately, your
opponents are dumb and make some pretty silly moves. It makes beating them easy, but takes some of the challenge out of the game. The only other problem is the
judge rules that get set each combat are
completely random and sometimes you'll have no control over whether you break them and get a
penalty.
Dive Into Ivalice?
This game is a fantastically
rich adventure that's so full of options, features and ways for you to do things your way that it'll boggle your brain! It also has an
interesting story, different
battle modes and some really cool ways for you to make your clan the coolest in the land. The
dumb enemies are a bit frustrating, but this is still an
excellent game that you'll be able to
enjoy for ages.
Thumbs Up:
56 jobs, hundreds of items, dozens of powers = tons of options!
Lead a team of heroes and take over a world.
Hours and hours and hours of gaming fun.
Ninjas and vikings! If only it had robots...
Thumbs Down:
The bad guys are dumb.
Random judge rules can be a pain.
