Lego Batman :: Game Preview

Jul 30, 2008

Holy building blocks Batman! The dynamic duo of Batman and Robin are the latest installment of the popular LEGO adventure game series to follow in the footsteps of LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones. Warner Bros. and Traveller's Tales have put a new twist on the DC Comic universe as heroes and villains alike duke it out on the streets of Gotham City. Batarangs away - check out our game preview!

Gameplay

LEGO Batman is a comic blend of [kwlink]action[/kwlink] and puzzle solving but doesn't really follow the diverse fiction aside from the large cast of easily recognizable characters. Still, you don't need to know much about the DC universe to enjoy this title which is aimed at younger gamers; and also features enjoyable cooperative play modes that allow parents and kids to play together and fight crime or be the [kwlink]villains[/kwlink] (crime doesn't pay! really!). While hand to hand combat is where its at, there are several vehicle levels to spin through as well; you'll have to check out the game to learn more but we've got a solid hunch you'll get to drive the Batmobile among others!

Cast

Batfan's delight! Traveller's Tales is still creating new [kwlink]villains[/kwlink], but so far we've got confirmation on an excellent cast from DC Comics to populate the dynamic duo's [kwlink]interchangeable [/kwlink] adventures. True to form, each villain has their own style and abilities that put our favorite caped crusaders to the test. The Penguin waddles around with deadly umbrellas, The Riddler perplexes minds and controls his foes, and Mr. Freeze's cold snaps allow access through flaming infernos; you'll be extremely entertained by exploring the potential of the entire cast. So far here's a list of confirmed characters:
  • Batman
  • Robin
  • Bane
  • Joker
  • Harley Quinn
  • Penguin
  • Clayface
  • Riddler
  • Mr. Freeze
  • Catwoman
  • Killer Croc
  • Scarecrow
  • Man Bat
  • Poison Ivy

  • Holy Gadgets Batman!

Fasten your safety Bat-belt, there's more gadgetry than you can shake a [kwlink]Grimalkin[/kwlink] at - and you'll need it all to best the collection of cruel criminals cavorting in the streets of [kwlink]Gotham[/kwlink]! Here's a teaser of what to expect from the dynamic duo (there will be much more in the final game, especially seen from the villain side of the fight!)
  • Batarangs target enemies at long distances
  • Batman's demolition suit lets him blows up obstacles and sets traps for unsuspecting villains
  • Batman's extendable cape allows him to glide between tall building's rooftops
  • Robin's high tech suit grants him control of other gadgetry and remote controlled vehicles.
  • Robins magnetic suit lets him walk up walls
