April 2012: Special Days

Every month has its fair share of holidays and special days of celebration and coming together for a good cause, and April is no exception! Check out the Kidworld Guide to April Special Days below to find out more on how you can celebrate and show you care this month!

Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month. Autism is a neurological or brain disorder that causes developmental disability. The disease affects the way the brain works; people with autism may have problems with communication, social interaction and unusual patterns of behaviour, activities and interests.

International Guitar Month

April is International Guitar Month! So get out your guitar (or go out and find one) and strum a few chords. If you don’t know how to play the guitar but have always wanted to try, this is a good month to sign up for a few lessons!

Keep America Beautiful Month

April is Keep America Beautiful Month. Let’s all do our best to keep the country and the whole world clean and garbage-free. Don’t ever litter and, if you see a piece of garbage on the ground, why not pick it up and put it where it belongs – in the trash?!

National Frog Month

Have a croaking good time and celebrate our little green friends! Why not have a frog party – you can play leap frog, practice your croaking and maybe even learn a little more about frogs by logging on to the Internet or cracking open a book about amphibians.

Like the pyramids of Giza and Stonehenge  Before addressing this point, I'd like to address the post about Kansas being flat. Land on Earth is not all at the same height. That's why it's not a perfect sphere. Look at a basketball, the height of the ball is equal at any two points. But, with Earth, certain land formations are taller than others. So imagine a basketball, but where certain parts are higher than others. That's why Kansas is flat, and that's why Everest is miles higher than the ground you're standing on.  Now, as far as ancient peoples, they did make the pyramids and Stonehenge. But, that doesn't make them experts in astronomy. The Egyptians believed that the Universe was rectangular, not flat. They also thought that Egypt was at the center of all existence. So, should we believe them?

If you look at Yggdrasil, it shows the world as flat but Midgard is a sphere
