Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Book Review

Author: Lewis Carroll

When I was a kid, I would sit and watch Disney's Alice in Wonderland over and over and over again. I loved the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire cat and the white rabbit. But little did I know, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was 10 times better! Alice encounters other great characters that I had never seen in the Disney movie.

A Timeless Classic

Believe it or not, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written in 1865, well before Walt Disney was even born, and the story has only gotten better with time. From the second that Alice sees the white rabbit and goes chasing after him, I was captivated. Even though I knew most of the story, it didn't take away from the excitement of Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole or waiting to see if she would shrink or grow from drinking the mysterious liquid in the bottle marked 'Drink Me.'

Each Chapter Brings a New Adventure

Each time I finished a chapter, I was frantically flipping the page to see who Alice would meet next. Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland is almost a collection of short stories with a new setting and a new set of characters for every chapter. However, Alice's adventures eventually bring all the characters together at the very end of the book in the Queen's courtroom.

Everyone Should Read It

Everyone should read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at least once in their life. No matter what year it is or how old you are, Alice's adventures will never become dull. Lewis Carroll also wrote Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There six years after Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and some of the characters from this book also appear in the Disney movie.

    Alice in Wonderland Masterpiece Edition

Every once in a while the folks at Disney hunt through their vaults for a classic flick to spruce up and bring to a living room near you. This time they've worked their magic on the Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland. This is the same fantastical tale your grandparents loved as kids, but it has the look and sound of a modern DVD - not to mention awesome bonus features.

    Alice in Wonder(ful)land

Unless you've been living in a cave, you know that Alice is a little girl who follows a white rabbit down a hole, and ends up having a crazy adventure. Alice meets a lot of whacked-out creatures on her trek through Wonderland - a talking cat, a smoking centipede and a singing walrus, to name a few. There are enough hilarious songs and outrageous hijinks in this flick to keep you glued to the tube from start to finish.

Alice in Wonderland - Bonus Features

If you're a DVD-feature buff, you're going to love the Masterpiece Edition of Alice in Wonderland. There are intros to the movie by Walt Disney himself, original trailers (from way back in 1951), a Virtual Tea Party with the Mad Hatter, and much, much more. The old clips are pretty cool but the Virtual Tea Party seems geared towards a pretty young viewer - so you might not dig it, but your younger sibs will. If you're looking for a little low-tech fun, the DVD comes with a card game. The cards are so pretty that you won't know whether to play with them or use 'em to decorate your room.
