Are These Phobias For Real?

Are These Phobias For Real? - Reviewed by Kidzworld on Dec 27, 2006

Here are a list of funny phobias and real life fears. Tell us if you think these phobias are made up or real.

Almost everyone is afraid of something. A lot of people suffer from arachnophobia (fear of spiders), aviophobia (fear of flying) and taphephobia (fear of being buried alive). Then there are some rare phobias that only one in a million people share. Check out these phobias and decide for yourself if any of 'em are made up.

  • Trichopathophobia - Fear of hair.
  • Peladophobia - Fear of bald people.
  • Melophobia - Fear of music.
  • Lachanophobia - Fear of vegetables.
  • Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - Fear of long words (can you even pronounce that word?)
  • Arachibutyrophobia - Fear of peanut butter getting stuck to the roof of your mouth.
  • Unatractiphobia - Fear of ugly people.
  • Dromophobia - Fear of crossing the road.
  • Pogonophobia - Fear of beards.
  • Linonophobia - Fear of string.

1 I think some of those are pretty weird but I believe some of them.

1 All of these phobias are real, except for the fear of ugly people. It's real name is cacophobia and it's fear of ugliness, not ugly people, just uglyness in general.

What do you think? Are all these phobias really true or did we make some of 'em up? Many phobias have been around for years but new ones have formed in recent years as technology advances. Phobias can seriously affect people but they can be cured. Take our poll and see what others think or your thoughts.

Last week I wrote about Murder or Suicide? Ronald Opus jumped off a building with the intention of committing suicide but was killed when a gun went off and the bullet hit him. The story was made up but it's been around for a long time. Nothing about it was true, although it does make you think for a second. Here's what everyone voted:

Did Ronald's Death Really Happen? Vote!

Of course! Stranger things do happen. 66%
Now way. That's an urban legend. 20%
I don't know. 13%

I Just looked it up and Here is what i found....: At the dawn of agriculture, about 8000 B.C., the population of the world was approximately 5 million. Over the 8,000-year period up to 1 A.D. it grew to 200 million (some estimate 300 million or even 600, suggesting how imprecise population estimates of early historical periods can be), with a growth rate of under 0.05% per year. A tremendous change occurred with the industrial revolution: whereas  it had taken all of human history until around 1800 for world population to reach one billion , the second billion was achieved in only 130 years (1930), the third billion in less than 30 years (1959), the fourth billion in 15 years (1974), and the fifth billion in only 13 years (1987). During the 20th century alone, the population in the world has grown from 1.65 billion to 6 billion. In 1970, there were roughly half as many people in the world as there are now. Because of declining growth rates, it will now take over 200 years to double again. So, There are definitely more people on earth now...huh?
