2010 Royal Windsor Horse Show

May 14, 2010

The Royal Windsor Horse Show is going on right now in London, England. The show is a good example of how the beauty of horses is shown at the highest level. The show has many competitions to showcase the horses’ skills, physical beauty, discipline, and control.

Historical Horses

In 1943, the 2nd World War was an extremely depressing situation for most people in Europe. So in England, Kind George VI decided to put on a horse show at the Windsor castle to get everyone’s minds off the war. Now, to this day, the Royal Windsor Horse Show still showcases the royal families’ horses, including those of Queen Elizabeth, the Princess Royal and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Queen Lizzy lives in the Windsor castle where the horse show will be held. It is the largest castle in the World (with someone who lives in it). It is more than 900 years old and many kings and queens of England have lived there. They all had horses, so what a great place for a horse show.

Events include show-jumping, carriage racing, dressage and polo. In the evening, Windsor castle will be lit up with lights, creating a really nice picture to the competition. All events finish in style with royal fireworks, that light up the castle like the 4th of July.

Reasonable Royalty

You don’t need to be royal to go to the Royal Windsor Horse Show. In fact, anyone can buy tickets for a reasonable price. Tickets only cost about $30 and you can even become a member to get discounts and access to private events. However, you cannot show up in your favorite Puma track suit. This event requires everyone to dress up real nice… but hey, that’s a small price to pay when you’re hanging out with a queen!
