Step Up 3D Movie Review

When Moose (Adam Sevani) arrives at NYU with his best friend Camille, he thinks his life will be devoted to engineering. He has no idea that hidden in the streets of New York is a huge dance community that will transform his college experience.

The Dance Community

During his tour of the campus, Moose gets caught up in a breakdancing circle and battles a member of a greedy dance crew called the Samurai’s. When the cops show up, an older guy helps Moose escape. His name is Luke, and he’s the leader the Pirates, the Samurai’s rival dance crew. Luke and his crew live in a warehouse-style building, where the upstairs is transformed into the ultimate dancer’s pad, complete with a bouncy cushion room, ropes, a wall of boom boxes and a huge collection of the world’s most amazing shoes.

The World Jam

After seeing Moose battle on the college grounds, Luke invites him to join their crew. They’re participating in the biggest dance-off ever—the World Jam—which has the biggest prize money to date—$100,000! Luke is five months behind on his rent. He needs the World Jam’s prize money to pay for the place…or it’ll be put up for public auction. And Julien, the leader of the Samurai’s, plans to buy it.

New Recruits

Luke refuses to put his dance family out on the streets. So with the help of Moose and Luke’s new love interest, Natalie, they’ll try to come up with a routine that will blow the Samurai’s out of the water.

The Bottom Line

Step Up 3D carries on the tradition of the first two movies…the tradition of being awesome! It has a solid plot (which can sometimes get lost in dance movies), and crazy dance moves. There are two separate love stories, and a couple of traitors amongst the Pirate’s who through some unexpected twists into the mix. You'll even see some familiar faces from So You Think You Can Dance: Twitch, Joshua, Legacy and Ivan. Because it’s 3D, you definitely need to see Step Up in theatres.
