College Road Trip DVD Review

Raven Symone and Martin Lawrence team up in this college road trip comedy. Kidzworld finds out if visiting schools with Pops is a good idea.
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
Melanie Porter (
Raven Symone) is super excited to be heading to college. She has always dreamed of going to Georgetown, but her overly protective,
police-chief father James (
Martin Lawrence) isn’t ready to let her go quite yet. He wants her to go to Northwestern because it’s
close to home in suburban Chicago. Melanie plans a
girls only road trip to check out schools, but her dad, of course, insists on coming along for the ride.
Car Trouble
So Dad James packs up the
Police SUV and Melanie, her little brother Trey and his
pet pig set out on the open road. There wouldn’t be much of a movie if everything went
fine and dandy and Melanie got to the school without a few
adventures on the way. So it makes sense that James
jacks up the SUV on the side of the road and it ends up tumbling all the way down into a ravine.
Shocking Turn of Events
That’s just the first obstacle. Eventually, father and daughter end up
skydiving, racing around on a golf cart,
interrupting a wedding, and much more. Along the way they meet a dorky family and end up doing some pretty
random song and dance numbers. Nothing goes
according to plan, and there are a few scenes where people get tasered, which is always funny, right? You’ll have to check out the movie yourself to see how these
crazy things all fit together, and find out if Melanie gets to go to
Georgetown after all.
DVD Features
If you’re a
Raven Symone fan, you’ll love the DVD extras which include a Raven
music video, and video diary. The extras include two audio commentaries as well, one with Raven and the director, the other with the scriptwriters. Plus, there’s also a
gag reel, an alternate opening, alternate endings and
deleted scenes.
The Bottom Line
Disney has rolled out another
family film starring some of its top talent including Raven Symone from
That’s So Raven and
Brenda Song from
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. The movie plays to a young audience, but will probably get at least a few laughs out of you no matter how old you are. For me, the
star of the film was the pet pig who stole quite a few scenes, and the
tasering action wasn’t too bad either. This isn’t a terrible movie all together, but it’s
pretty silly and isn’t much different from other
road trip movies you might have seen before.
