Wrestling for Girls
Now that women's wrestling is an event at the Olympics, more girls are starting to get into the sport. Lot sof girls will find that it's not easy, because it's not a popular sport for girls and most girls who want to wrestle have to wrestle with the boys.
Gold Medal Motivation
Men's wrestling became an Olympic event in the 1904 Olympics. 100 years later in 2004, women's wrestling finally became an event. With a chance to win a gold medal at the Olympics, the sport is becoming more popular for girls to get into the ring in schools... but they have to wrestle with the boys if they want to succeed.
Wrestling is a great sport for girls to learn. Not only is it highly physical, but it also teaches a lot of moves that could be used in self-defense. If more and more girls get involved with sports like wrestling, martial arts, or anything else teaching hand to hand combat, there will be more girls that can protect themselves in any given situation.
Losing Your Lady-Like?
A lot of girls are discouraged to try wrestling because it is not "lady-like". Wrestling requires a lot of muscle and toughness and a lot of girls think that women aren't supposed to look and act this way. Well, what most women don't understand is that it is not impossible to have both qualities of a wrestler and qualities of a lady. Just because girls that wrestle gain lots of strength and aggresion doesn't mean that can't have a gentle and sensitive side too.
Getting into wrestling has lots of benefits and you might want to try it out. Here are some of the opportunities:
- Learn some self-defence
- Gain confidence
- Get in shape
- Chance to compete
- Win scholarships to Universities
- Win a gold medal at the Olympics!
