Is the new Windows OS the next great thing? Check out our review and see!

Windows 8 is looking to change the way we interact with our technology. The new operating system is designed specifically with touchscreens and tablets in mind. As such, just using the mouse and keyboard may not accurately show why Windows 8 is next big thing.

Bells and Whistles

The most notable new thing in Windows 8 is the Start Screen, which features the Live Tiles. The old start button and desktop is still available, if you switch modes, but Windows 8 wants you to use the tiles, which are super friendly for tablet and touchscreen users. Other elements of tablet operating systems have found their way into Windows 8. For example, there is the Charms bar, which you can access by swiping on the right side of the screen, giving you shortcuts to your favorite programs and websites. There is also a Windows store, where you can purchase apps to use on your computer.

Pros and Cons

The best thing about Windows 8 is the fact that it starts up fast. Before, it can take several minutes to boot up your computers, but with Windows 8 you can get onto the internet as fast as you could with a tablet. The quick search feature is pretty good and the gestures shortcuts are very handy. The biggest issues with Windows 8 is the fact that you are not really supposed to be using it with mouse and keyboard. If you want to stick with what you are used to, stick with Windows 7. Additionally, the apps and programs selection is still fairly slim. Don't expect all upcoming games to be Windows 8 supported!

Overall, Windows 8 is good at what it does. Along with the new features, all the old features that you are used to are still there. If you are not planning to buy a new laptop or computer with a touchscreen soon, it probably isn't worth upgrading.
