Her mother was a teacher and her father worked at a saw mill and Carrie has two older sisters, Shanna and Stephanie. In high school she was a cheerleader, a star student and played basketball and softball. When she was 14 she went to Nashville and was offered a record deal, but it fell through due to the company changing hands and Carrie put her singing dreams on hold.
After high school Carrie decided that it was more practical to go to university, she went to Northeastern State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Journalism, graduating in 2006. During university she competed in beauty pageants, worked at a pizzeria and worked at the zoo. In 2004 Carrie auditioned for the fourth season on American Idol in St. Louis, Missouri and judge Simon Cowell immediately remarked that he thought she would be a finalist and a real contender – and he was right! Carrie won the fourth season of American Idol in May 2005 which meant that she received a million dollar recording contract, the use of a private jet for 1 year and a Mustang convertible!
