Carrie Underwood Bio

Dec 10, 2012

Country crooner Carrie Underwood rose to fame after becoming the winner of Season 4 of American Idol and the 29-year-old singer has since been nominated for and won several Grammys. Find out more about her in her Kidzworld Bio!

Muskogee Miss

Carrie Marie Underwood, born March 10 1983, hails from Muskogee, Oklahoma but was raised on her parents’ farm in a rural town called Checotah. Her mother was a teacher and her father worked at a saw mill and Carrie has two older sisters, Shanna and Stephanie. Carrie loved to sing even as a girl, and would perform at talent shows in her local church and in local events. In high school she was a cheerleader, a star student and played basketball and softball. When she was 14 she went to Nashville and was offered a record deal, but it fell through due to the company changing hands and Carrie put her singing dreams on hold.

American Idol

After high school Carrie decided that it was more practical to go to university, she went to Northeastern State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Journalism, graduating in 2006. During university she competed in beauty pageants, worked at a pizzeria and worked at the zoo. In 2004 Carrie auditioned for the fourth season on American Idol in St. Louis, Missouri and judge Simon Cowell immediately remarked that he thought she would be a finalist and a real contender – and he was right! Carrie won the fourth season of American Idol in May 2005 which meant that she received a million dollar recording contract, the use of a private jet for 1 year and a Mustang convertible!

Some Hearts to Blown Away

Some American Idol winners you never hear from again, but that most definitely wasn’t the case for Carrie. She immediately went to work on her first album Some Hearts and climbed up the pop and country charts with hits like “Before He Cheats.” Her most recent album Blown Away came out in 2012 and features the songs “Good Girl,” and “Blown Away.” She has won numerous awards over the years, including the American Country Music Award for Best Single and a Grammy for Best Country performance for “Jesus, Take the Wheel.”

Check out the title track off Blown Away below!

'We prefer to do things comfortably.'But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.'In fact,' said Mustapha Mond, 'you're claiming the right to be unhappy. Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have ######## and cancer, the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen tomorrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.' There was a long silence.I claim them all,' said the Savage at last.Mustapha Mond shrugged his shoulders. 'You're welcome,' he said.”  I freaking LOVE Brave New World! It's one of the best books I've ever read, and that conversation between the Controller and John is my favorite part  [s:sm3/1jw1]
