Is A-Rod Worth It?

Dec 27, 2006

He can hit, he can run, he can field and now Alex Rodriguez can buy just about anything he wants. The shortstop signed a ten year contract with the Texas Rangers that will pay him $252 million over the next ten years! That works out to more than $25 million a season - which is probably more than your parents will make in their entire lifetime. And other stars in baseball have also signed huge contracts over the past couple of months. Mike Hampton will get 120 million to pitch for the Colorado Rockies for the next eight years and Manny Ramirez will be paid 160 million dollars to hit home runs for the Red Sox for eight seasons.

For sure, A-Rod is one of the best players in baseball right now ... He put up big numbers last year. He had a .316 average, 41 home runs, and 132 RBI's. But isn't it a little ridiculous to pay someone $250 mil to play baseball? I mean, your allowance is no where close to that (unless you're Richie Rich) and you probably have to do a bunch of crappy chores before your parents shell it out. They don't pay you to go outside and play baseball all day.

And, what can Alex possibly do with all that money? He says his favorite cereal is Cocoa Puffs - so with his new raise, he could buy 80 million boxes of Cocoa Puffs. That's a lot of bowls of cereal to eat during Saturday Morning cartoons.

What do you think? Is Alex Rodriguez getting paid too much money to play baseball? Or for that matter, is your allowance too little for what you have to do? Send to Kidzworld.
