Ultimate Spider-Man: PS2, Xbox and Gamecube Game Review
Courtesy of ActivisionSpider-Man video games have been coming out for five years now but this is the first time that the Ultimate Spider-Man comic has been made into a video game! With a story done by the guys behind the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book from Marvel, this game has some solid superhero action. Check out the details with our review.
Web-Slingin' Mayhem with Spider-Man!
Not only do you get to
web-sling your way through
New York as a young Spider-Man (he's in
high-school in the Ultimate Spider-Man
comics) but you get to play as a
villain. The nasty bad guy,
Venom, shows up for about one-third of the game and you get to play as him. How bad is he? He
eats people to get his life bar back! No
ketchup even! Ew.
Super-Action in Ultimate Spider-Man
With
stylin' graphics and awesome
sound effects, right down to the
voice-acting, this game is off to a flying start.
Spider-Man and Venom both act like they just jumped out of a
comic, with
Spidey getting lippy with bad guys as he thumps 'em. There are also lots of
comic book covers and bonus items to find as well as guest appearances by other
Marvel comic characters.
Super-Size Problems in Ultimate Spider-Man
If you dug the web-slinging in
Spider-Man 2, you're in for a disappointment. It's been whittled right down so any
munchkin can web-sling like a pro without needing any skill. Ditto for the
fighting - it's totally simplified. But, the biggest problem is that
Venom just isn't fun to play. He can't swing from webs and
constantly stopping to snack on people *burp* gets boring.
Does Ultimate Spider-Man Save the Day?
Ultimate Spider-Man lives up to its name! If you don't mind a few plodding
Venom levels, you'll definitely enjoy Ultimate
Spiderman for the Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox.
Ultimate Spider-Man Thumbs Up:
Spider-Man gets really chatty.
Superhero guest stars.
Spidey's a teenager!
Ultimate Spider-Man Thumbs Down:
*munch* *munch* *munch* *BURP* Ick...
Really simple controls make it too easy.
