Luc Besson - Aquatic Upbringing
Luc Besson was born in Paris to parents who were both
SCUBA diving instructors. Their
unconventional occupation had a huge influence on Luc and he spent most of his teen years hoping to be a
marine biologist. When a diving accident left him unable to dive anymore, Luc changed his focus to
filmmaking. He worked odd jobs in the French industry before
moving to the US for a few years. When he returned to
France, Luc started his own film company.
Luc Besson - There's No Business Like Show Business
Luc began writing, directing and producing his own films and quickly found success in France. In fact, many people have called him "the French
Steven Spielberg". In 1997, he had huge success in
English-speaking countries with the film, The Fifth Element, starring Milla Jovovich and
Bruce Willis. Luc Besson married Milla Jovovich later that year but they divorced in 1999. Luc also wrote and directed La Femme Nikita, The Messenger: The Story of
Joan of Arc, and produced
Madonna's Love Profusion music video.
Luc Besson - Minimoy Madness
In more recent times, Luc Besson has turned his writing talents to children's books.
Arthur and the Minimoys was his first novel for kids and in his
second installment,
Arthur and the Forbidden City, Arthur continues his quest to
save his grandfather in the land of the Minimoys. Luc is currently working
on a movie based on both books, which is due to hit theaters in the United States in
January, 2007..
Luc Besson - Did U Know?

Luc spent much of his childhood in Greece and the former Yugoslavia where his parents were diving instructors for Club Med.
Luc Besson has four daughters.

"People often say I'm a child at heart. In fact, I think I just have access to my childhood; I have a very clear memory of it. We were all children once. We just need to show a bit of respect for it."
