Franny, Pru, Cat and Ivy may hate each other's guts, but they've got to stick together when an evil witch comes to town. Check out the review of The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls!

The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls - A Pair of Ruby Red Slippers

Franny is adventurous, Pru is a bit of a scaredy cat, Cat is a know-it-all (maybe that's cuz she has ESP), and Ivy is jinxed. Although they're enemies, they have a couple of things in common. They live on Gumm Street and take piano lessons from Mr. Staccato. It's at his house that they discover a pair of ruby red slippers - the same ruby red slippers from The Wizard of Oz! Soon after Mr. Staccato dies, a hurricane of a problem hits Gumm Street - the sister of the Wicked Witch of the West wants the shoes and it's up to the girls to protect them!

The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls - There's No Place Like Home

It turns out four little girls are no match for a wicked witch. She banishes them to the land of Spoz to work as maids for a couple of nasty witches. While the girls don't exactly get along, they realize they have to put aside their differences and work together in order to escape from Spoz and return home. But while Dorothy clicked her red heels three times to get back home, these girls don't have anything to help them!

The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls - Bottom Line

Don't be scared off by the 473 pages that make up The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls. The illustrations cut it down to about half of that - or at least that's what it seems like cuz it's such an entertaining read! Even though you're back at school and busy with homework and projects, make The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls a must-read on weekends when you're not so swamped with school stuff.
