That's a rather radical false dichotomy. It doesn't have to be equal income or people starving, there's middle ground, something like basic income would achieve your goals without taking all of the rich people's money away.

Why should wealth be distributed equally? I think wealth inequality should be significantly lessened, but cannot, should not, and need not be eliminated. Lots of systems other than communism provide state health care and education. Just like democratic republics are supposed to represent the people? Communism is susceptible to the same corruption and politicking as any other system.
