## Will Kids Without Calculators Be Smarter?

The math skills of kids in every level of school aren't making some people happy. The solution? Banning calculators from the classroom. Can you imagine math class without your calculator? Back to Article

While the school system is flawed, we need calculators for certain aspects of higher math like in

Algebra II. There are some operations that can't

performed without a calculator.

**wrote:**

Kids have to know how to do the math in order to use the calculator, calculators aren't bad because guess what every one of the smartest mathematicians useALCULATORS.

system need to work on is to stop teaching on a memorization basis and actually help students understand the material of the subjects learned. That is their problem.

**wrote:**

That's absolutely ridiculous. Many equations require calculators because there's simply not enough time. Unless you're majoring in mathematics, why not take advantage of technology? Calculators aren't allowed in elementary school because it's really not needed but middle school and high school student need them. The point of calculators is to allow students to do MORE difficult questions, equations that our brains aren't able to solve and process in such a short space of time. What the education

**wrote:**

The knowledge of knowing how to use a mathematical calulator is relatively handy, banning would be pointless.

**wrote:**

Seriously? Ban all calculators? That's soo stupid. I need a calculator to check answers to see if I did them right.

**wrote:**

Nope. Not at all. If I didn't have a calculator, I'd be in my math class for ten hours just trying to figure out one question.

Plus, a lot of the things on the calculator you can't use with your head. You need the calculator.

I mean, thats WHY they made calculators for math.

OMGOSH that is NOT the solution. The solution is creative teaching that kids actually find interesting. I'm homeschooled and going into fifth grade and I get straight A's in math and do pre-algebra with a calculator. I think that calculators are fine as long the student actually knows what it's doing for him or her and can do without it.

**wrote:**

Don't ban them we need them. Just because we use them doesn't mean that we always depend on them.

**wrote:**

i think calculators should be used at a later age like when numbers became too much

**wrote:**

I think yes but that's just my opinion. I don't use a calculator unless for checking my answers right or wrong.
