C/O Brilliant Public Relations

By: Sindy

While most kids her age are making macaroni art and science fair projects, Sammi Hanratty is making movies and TV shows. We sit down to chat with this rising pre-teen star!

Sindy: You're most recognized for your role on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. What's it like working with Dylan and Cole?
Sammi Hanratty: It's amazing. Dylan and Cole are both so nice to everyone and just really down to earth. They really make you feel like you are part of a family there.

Sindy: Many of your Suite Life co-stars have gone on to do high-profile made-for-tv movies. What kind of movie would you love to be a part of?
Sammi Hanratty: Well, I did an ABC Family movie that aired last year where I played the lead with Lacey Chabert and Wendie Malick. It was so amazing. They are just so great to work with. If I had my choice of another movie, it would definitely have animals in it. I just did a movie with a dog, so maybe this time I could work with a horse. I love horses!

Sindy: You've worked on a ton of high profile shows like Charmed, The Unit and CSI - what has been your favorite guest appearance and why?
Sammi Hanratty: Honestly, I love working and each one has been such a great time. I love meeting new people on the crew as well as on the show. I think Pushing Daisies was probably the most fun because it's such a unique show and we do a lot of green screen. But I love working on The Unit because I feel like it's my family. We have such a great cast and crew there!

Sindy: Who has been the coolest person you've worked with so far?
Sammi Hanratty: I would have to say Lacey Chabert. I worked with her in my first lead role, Hello Sister, Goodbye Life. We went to the Aquarium in New Orleans before filming to spend time together and get to know each other. She is just such a sweet person and role model, which my mom loved! She made that experience just amazing for me. She also let me hang out with her in her trailer and play with her dog, Teacup!

Sindy: Who would you like to work with in the future that you haven't worked with yet?
Sammi Hanratty: Amanda Bynes.

Sindy: You have a lot of upcoming projects like Pushing Daisies and Magic - how do you balance work with a social life?
Sammi Hanratty: Last summer I got to work with my best friend Mia Ford. We went to dinner together almost every night because we worked a lot of the same hours. It was great; we worked together all day and then hung out afterwards. I try and schedule time with my other friends on my days off. My mom taught me how important it is to make time for other things besides just acting. She makes sure we go home a lot so we can spend time with family and friends there too.

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
