Do you think vegans are abstaining from eating meat, eggs, milk, cheese etc for "saving the life of innocent cows" and "spiritual development"? I don't think so. Vegans are people who just don't understand that human is an omnivore, neither carnivore or herbivore. And it needs both carnal and herbal food to develop properly. And spiritual development comes outta heart, not herbal food.

There are many reasons for someone to be vegan.  Sometimes it's 'cause of religion, as Huge said.  Other times, it's because of someone simply thinking it's gross to be eating something from other animals.  And sometimes, people do it because they want the health benefits, such as less fat, and other things.  Everyone has their own reason.  I am semi-vegetarian.  I did it originally because I simply didn't like the thought of eating another animal.  I'm starting to get over that, but I still don't eat a lot of meat.  I think that if you are getting the all the nutrients that you need, and are healthy, you shouldn't get judged on what you eat, and you should eat what you feel most comfortable with.
