People religious or not have different ideas of what would be a good way to show tolerance toward others beliefs.

I saw some events organized to emphasis the importance of religions tolerance, they included different religious people holding different religious symbols, and chants holding the meaning ''we're all the same''. Now I know they think this helps, though I think it's of no real purpose. Because people of different religion have different beliefs, they are not ''the same''. It doesn't make one more tolerant saying he's the same or holding a cross if he's not a christian..etc.

This is mostly made to ask what do you think is the best manner conveying religious tolerance? Maybe even a real happening in your life that describe this well.

My opinions is right has the possibility of being wrong, and your opinion is wrong has the possibility of being right.

I'd be happy if it just meant live and let live rather than denying peoples rights and trying to kill them.

Religion should not be tolerated as they make claims that cannot be proven (like miracles, or the existence of a God), and often times have extremely unethical teachings. Islam, infinitely moreso than Christianity, should not be tolerated at all.

It's pretty funny when people think religions should be tolerated, especially when those same religions preach against gays, women, heretics, etc.

So you wouldn't be civil toward someone religious because you don't believe in their religion/ think it's false? How reasonable.

Never said that. Nice try.

Please stop, just rethink what you're trying to say here. 'Unethical them, very ethical me' what do you base that on?

Overall human wellness and how it's self-evident that people are not meant to be treated the way they are in Islam, especially women.

applaud you for your infinite stupidity. I was really looking forward for something positive out of this thread.

Golly gee willikers, you sure showed me

'preach against women' seriously.

Srsly

Do they touch you in person? are you effected by a religion?

Doesn't really seem relevant.

you're not religious why would you be against someone, purposely not tolerating another

Probably because it's wrong, and I really don't like seeing people treated poorly when it's entirely unwarranted, like being treated as a second class citizen purely because of your gender or ethnicity, despite it simply being the lottery of birth.

because of something he/she believes that doesn't effect you?

Again, really doesn't have a lot of relevance.

It's funny when people think that religions shouldn't be tolerated, especially when those same people think they're more humane and ethical

I'm not the one participating in a religion that preaches people who leaves that religion ought to be killed, or that women should cover themselves up in 110 degree weather. Nor am I the one participating in the religion that has 0% of its British-Muslim population saying being gay is alright, or that 50% of those same muslims polled believe people who insult Islam should be arrested and prosecuted, or the religion where 33% of its members polled said that killing in the name of protecting that religion is justified. Relative to Islam, almost everyone has the moral highground.

You said that about religions, therefor the same would go for anyone that preaches them.

Well let me enlighten you then, there are Muslims who live their whole lives according to their religion and are the happiest doing so, including women.

I have no idea what the thing above in bold means. Showed you what? a positive thing? I was the one asking for it in this thread!

But that isn't true.

Converting from Islam doesn't have a definite verdict, they're not necessarily killed. To be fair Muslim women doesn't all cover, those who do believe in Islam and its teachings, hence, the majority doesn't feel oppressed in doing something out of pure convection. Who are you to say they aren't? Just because they don't find wearing less clothes more freeing doesn't mean they are oppressed. Why would they say it's alright? You can't be both a Muslim and gay, it doesn't even make sense. What do you exactly mean by killing to protect the religion?. Though your 'moral highground' is based purely on you. No it's not human overall wellness, human don't agree on the same things as good and what will make them well in the first place.

I've thought about this all day... and I really think the 'tolerance' just boils down to "leaving it alone" whatever IT is per topic. Does that make sense?

I honestly believe that people need to tolerate each others religion. Just because a person doesn't believe what you believe does not give the right to make fun of them and get in their face telling them that their views on things are wrong. If you want people to treat you with respect and understand your religion or lack of one, then do the same to them.

I guess, it's helpful sometimes to not interfere. I think that makes one apathetic in his views related to anything 'per topic' though, while now that I thought about it more myself, there should be a dialog and interaction between people of different beliefs who disagree, because in a public debate..etc, you know that at least you get to say what you believe in and argue for it, listen to the opposing side/s and know that you won't be bashed for it.
That is if the debate was between balanced minded people/s who are more interested in the arguments made than their previous/still current position of it or the urge to rip their opponent apart.
But again, maybe it's best to leave something alone, I agree.

My opinions is right has the possibility of being wrong, and your opinion is wrong has the possibility of being right.

This. Plus, if people want to point out something which they think is wrong about a certain belief they can do so to someone willing to participate in a debate/conversation with them.
