Hey Coach,
I play softball, which has mostly the same rules as baseball, and I want to know why do guys think girls can't play baseball?
softballstar129

Hey softballstar129,
If you hear a guy say, "girls can't play baseball," just throw him a pitch around head level and that should shut up him. Some guys think girls can't play baseball because there are lots of girls who really suck at baseball - just like there are lots of guys who can't play sports either.

Most girls can't throw the ball as fast as guys, can't hit the ball as hard as guys and can't catch the ball as well - but that doesn't mean girls can't or shouldn't play baseball. Some of the pitchers who play women's softball throw the ball more than 80 miles per hour, which is just as hard as some guys pitch a baseball. Guys that say, "girls can't play baseball," are just small-minded babies who probably still drink from a baby bottle. Just ignore 'em or throw 'em a fastball - that should give them a wake-up call.

Hey Coach,
I play second base pretty good and I want to know what is the difference between softball and baseball?
2ndbasebaby

Hey 2ndbasebaby,
There are several differences between the rules of softball and the rules of baseball:

  • The ball in softball is bigger - not softer as you might think. Getting nailed in the head with a softball doesn't feel so soft.
  • A baseball bat is thicker than a softball bat. A baseball bat is often made of wood, while in softball the bat is made of metal.
  • In baseball, the pitcher thows the ball over the shoulder and in softball, the pitcher throws under the shoulder.
  • A softball field is smaller than a baseball field.

Do you have a question on sports, P.E. class, fitness or health? Send it to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
